As award season heats up, artists often dream of glory. But for the Ramones in 1989, their dream took a bizarre turn. They thought they were about to achieve stardom, only to discover their 'award' was for the 'Worst Song'.
While a few flops are common in the music industry, the sting of such recognition can be bitter. The Ramones' moment of realization came when they were summoned by none other than Stephen King, the literary master. King, known for his dark and twisted tales, sought something with a sharper edge, and found it in the Ramones.
The story varies, but Marky Ramone recalled a night at King's house, a lavish dinner, and a novel called 'Pet Sematary' handed to Dee Dee. An hour later, the bassist wrote a song, which later became the band's best-selling track, charting at number four. But King had his doubts.

Ironically, Iron Maiden's 'Bring Your Daughter… To The Slaughter' won the actual award. Bruce Dickinson, like the Ramones, thought he was set for filmic success when asked to record for 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child'. His version became their only UK number one, but the song didn't translate well to the big screen.
