Rapper Ghetts Jailed Over Fatal London Hit-and-Run (2026)

A tragic hit-and-run incident has shaken the music industry and the London community, leaving a trail of heartbreak and controversy in its wake. The renowned rapper Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for causing the death of a young student in a fatal collision.

But here's where it gets even more devastating: Clarke-Samuel, a 41-year-old award-winning artist, was driving at more than double the speed limit in a residential area when he struck and killed 20-year-old Yubin Tamang, a university student from Nepal.

The court heard how Clarke-Samuel's BMW M5 hit Tamang as he crossed the road, sending him flying into the air and causing catastrophic injuries. Tamang sadly passed away two days later in hospital.

Judge Mark Lucraft KC described the CCTV footage leading up to the collision as a "quite appalling litany of incidents" and emphasized the shocking nature of Clarke-Samuel's dangerous driving.

And this is the part most people miss: Clarke-Samuel had been drinking alcohol that evening, and was reportedly one and a half times over the legal limit. He failed to stop at six red traffic lights, veered onto the wrong side of the road, and even collided with a motorcyclist and a Mercedes before the fatal incident.

The rapper initially claimed he drove erratically because he feared someone was following him, but no evidence of a pursuit was found in the CCTV footage.

An Uber driver, who initially thought Tamang was a bundle of clothes in the road, called 999 after realizing the severity of the situation. Police traced Clarke-Samuel's vehicle through a damaged wing mirror casing found at the scene, and later located the car near his home with significant damage.

Clarke-Samuel pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and an additional charge of dangerous driving. In a letter to Tamang's family, he expressed extreme regret, shame, and remorse, stating, "This may be the only chance I get to apologize. It was an unintentional act, and I am sincerely sorry for the suffering and emotional distress I have caused."

However, the court also heard that Clarke-Samuel had a lengthy criminal record, with 12 previous convictions for 27 crimes, including robbery and driving offenses.

Shani Taggart of the Crown Prosecution Service said, "Clarke-Samuel knew he was unfit to drive, and the evidence of his excessive speed and disregard for road users is clear. Today's sentence reflects the consequences of his fatal decision to drive after drinking. Our thoughts are with Yubin Tamang's family and loved ones as they grieve the loss of their only child."

This tragic story serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of drink driving and dangerous driving behaviors. It raises important questions about the responsibility of public figures and the impact of their actions on the community. What are your thoughts on this incident and the sentence handed down?
